Mirandizing and the Citizenry in an Era of Terrorism

April 20, 2013

Catching the suspect Boston Bomber is to be commended, but under our Federal Constitutional protections of the 5th, 6th, 14th Amendments we must require law enforcement and government authorities to Mirandize all US citizens, or else no one is safe from being taken into custody and interrogated without constitutional protections. This is not unreasonable to require even in terrorist accusations. A further concern is that our society has increasingly labeled many deviant/criminal behaviors as “terroristic”. If we progress to lend positive sanction in allowing governmental to arbitrarily determine when or when not to Mirandize, all US Citizenry will suffer loss of legal assurances under our accusatory system of adjudicatory criminal justice.
