Prison Islam Compared to Prison Christianity

January 1, 2015

Dr. Rigsby speaks on prisoner conversion experiences.  Islamic and Christian converts are explored and tendencies in identity shifts and transformation in identity are explored.  #DialogueInstituteSouthwest #LittleRock  The last guest speaker during the Spring of 2013 was Dr. Malcolm L. Rigsby of Henderson State University Department of Sociology and Human Services.  Dr. Rigsby is an Assistant Professor of Sociology and Criminal Justice and is the coordinator of the Criminal Justice program at HSU.  Dr. Rigsby’s talk was about his research in prisoner conversion experiences and transformations in identity. Findings from his recent study conducted at the Oregon Department of Corrections (2011), provide an encouraging pathway for an interdisciplinary approach employing outcomes based measures for lowering recidivism rates and helping prisoners in release toward greater likelihood of desistance from crime and other forms of antisocial and radical outcomes.  http://www.interfaithdialog.org/index.php?option=com_k2&view=item&id=265:prisoner-conversion-experiences-by-dr-rigsby
